Deadpool 2 officially confirmed at CinemaCon
The first film's entire creative team will return for more superhero hi-jinks
It may not be surprising news considering a) it was a global smash and b) it's a superhero film, but a Deadpool sequel has officially been confirmed.
The news came directly from CinemaCon in Las Vegas where Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider revealed that both star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller would be returning as well alongside the entire creative team behind the hugely successful first film.
Upcoming Marvel films
Show all 10Following its release, Deadpool amassed global takings of $757.3 million making it the highest grossing R-rated film of all time.
The film's screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently addressed the film's post-credits scene which teased the appearance of Marvel superhero Cable.
“There's a lot of fun in that he's very serious and he does take on more serious weighty issues than Deadpool's used to taking on," said Rheese. "...so I think there's a juxtaposition there that can be fun."
Deadpool was something of a career renaissance for Reynolds who had previously played a poorly-received version of the character in Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009).
Making the most of his second opportunity, Reynolds participated in heavy promotion of the film, most of which was in character as the mutant.
No release date has been set for Deadpool 2.
